Today,AstraZeneca announced that it has donated atomization expectorant medicines worthy of over RMB 6 million to the China Primary Health Care Foundation for treatment of COVID-19 patients and disease prevention and control. This donation covers a number of provinces and cities including Wuhan,Hubei. More than half of the medicines will benefit primary patients in the county areas.
With the development of the epidemic and the deepening of research on COVID-19,expectorant drugs have played an increasingly important role in treatment. China Primary Health Care Foundation also mentioned in the solicitation letter that some COVID-19 treatment hospitals and county hospitals still lack expectorant drugs.
It’s our responsibility to help fight the COVID-19 epidemic. After learning about the needs of the hospital and patients,AstraZeneca immediately decided to donate an atomizing expectorant(acetylcysteine solution for inhalation)to the China Primary Health Care Foundation,in an effort to alleviate pressure of drugs in hospitals at all levels,particularly grassroots hospitals.
After packing & transporting medicines against the time,the first batch of medicines have been delivered to Yunyang People’s Hospital in Danyang City,Jiangsu Province and Yixian Hospital in Xuancheng City,Anhui Province to support local epidemic prevention and control.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19,AstraZeneca has made swift response and actively participated in the battle against the epidemic. Up till March 18,it has launched 7 donations totaling more than RBM 10 million continuously supporting the combat against COVID-19:
·On the New Year’s Eve of January 24,we were among the first multinational pharmaceutical companies to donate RMB 1 million to the Red Cross,supporting the local prevention and control of pneumonia;
·On January 28,the first batch of 15,000 medical masks donated were handed over to 15 hospitals in Wuhan,providing protection for the frontline medical staff;
·On February 2,the medicines we donated,which are worthy of RMB 5.5 million,has reached the Huoshenshan Hospital and Leishenshan Hospital in Wuhan,hoping to assist medical staff and patients in the most affected areas;
·On February 10,AstraZeneca donated over 90,000 pairs of medical gloves to Hubei,Shanghai,Wuxi,Guangzhou,Hangzhou,and Chengdu to support the protection of local frontline medical staff,as well as regions relatively short of medical resources including Anhui,Hebei,Hunan,Yunnan,Shaanxi and Shanxi Province;
·AstraZeneca’s employees voluntarily donated RMB 2.6 million;
·On February 24,the medicines donated by AstraZeneca and FibroGen China,which are worthy of about RMB 1 million,arrived at Wuhan to meet the treatment needs of local patients with chronic renal diseases and suffering from anemia;
·On March 18,AstraZeneca donated atomization expectorant medicines worthy of over RMB 6 million to China Primary Health Care Foundation. The donation covered various areas including Wuhan,Hubei province,with half of the medicine to benefit primary patients in county areas.
