This paper focuses on the academic gaps in tourism studies between China and the western countries. Using access to internet resources,the author concludes that tourism studies in China are lag the counterparts in the western countries behind:the number of academic journals and literature of tourism in China is far less than the number of English ones. Chinese society of tourism research tends to run after some hot topics led by governments at various levels. The lack of appropriate follow up in academic research on special themes results in a limited accumulation of valuable literature. Tourism study in China is hardly a discipline yet. The author arrives at and delivers these conclusions with a positive approach to the subject of tourism
