Since the 1970s,the cultural and creative industries(CCI)in Hong Kong has been an active contributor to the city’s economic progress. The Hong Kong government has also initiated a number of infrastructure projects for the CCI,such as Cyberport(2004)and Innovation Centre(2006),as well CreateHK,which focuses on sectors development through policies coordination and funding schemes. This chapter offers a comprehensive description of the developments within several sectors of the CCI in Hong Kong, which includes visual arts, film, design, publication, and performing arts. With the launch of a brand new esports venue in Cyberport in July 2019,a section is devoted to the discussions of the challenges and opportunities of esports development in Hong Kong. The paper also delves into the concept of placemaking as a way forward for the CCI,exploring the synergies between culture, creativity and commerce,as well as the revitalization of heritage buildings. The chapter concludes with some thoughts how the CCI could integrate with the Greater Bay Area in a meaningful way.
