Quality-of-Life Sub-Indexes of the 35 Chinese Cities

Scores and rankings of the subjective satisfaction and the objective(social and economic data)indexes can be explained by the sub-indexes.[1]

6.1 Living Standard Indexes

Living standard index consists of a subjective satisfaction index and an objective index(social and economic data index). The former was obtained through a telephone survey by assigning values to survey answers, and the latter by calculating social and economic indicators of the 35 cities.

6.1.1 Subjective Satisfaction Indexes of Living Standard

Table 1 lists the living standard subjective indexes of the 35 cities, along with their respective rankings and previous survey results.

Continued table

As is shown in Table 1,the 2014 weighted average of living standard(subjective)satisfaction indexes is 54.32 — above the satisfaction level and higher than that of 2011,2012 and 2013. In the 2014 survey, all the 35 cities score between 50 and 60,with Beijing as the highest scorer and Zhengzhou as the lowest. Although the score of Zhengzhou is the lowest(50.98),it is still an improvement compared to its 2013 score(48.00). Viewed by dynamic changes, the averages of living standard satisfaction indexes are 51.76,51.28,52.51 and 54.32 respectively from 2011 to 2014,which forms an upward trend(Figure 1 generally illustrates such changes).
