Chen Tian，doctoral supervisor of Institute Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research，director of Tourism and Social Cultural Geographic Research Office. He has taken charge of and participated in more than 30 programs ranged from ministry to state level. Besides，he has compile over 10 books and published over 60 papers. He has been awarded the first prize of scientific progress at the level of ministries and commissions for twice，the second prize for twice and the third prize of natural science for once.

First of all，I am very happy for having such a chance to talk about the ecological civilization. I majored in the geography，and the topic I tell is “How to Create Fertile Soil for Regional Culture Prosperity”？

Regional culture，as an important category of human geography，is an unique cultural tradition in certain areas with a long history，now it is still playing an important role. It is the sign of civilization of ecology，folklore，tradition and custom，having distinctive regional features. Region，the geographical background of the culture formation，may be large or small. Culture，can be a single factor or a multiple one. The regional culture is continuously developing and changing in the long-term formation，but shows a relative stability during a certain stage. Characteristics of regional culture has been mostly incarnated the respects of dialect culture，food culture，folk beliefs，folk architecture，different environment，immigration，district division and so on，which makes life more colorful in a certain region.

The relations between regional culture and ecological civilization are mainly reflected in three aspects：ecological civilization contains the cognition，attitude，value and institutional arrangement of natural ecology，cultural ecology（human ecology）； regional culture，as the fusion zone of natural ecology and cultural ecology，is the cornerstone and carrier of ecological civilization； developing the regional culture to practice the ecological civilization idea and show its progress.

What are problems traditional regional cultures facing？ I think we have two major challenges. First，it takes time for regional culture formation，while the process of urbanization，modernization and information is accelerated which leads to cultural erosion by regional environment changes. Second，the fragmentation of cultural transmission，fast food culture，foreign culture erosion，geographical space fragmentation and regional culture convergence are other challenges we are facing. So we need to have more wisdom and courage to do the work of regional culture protection，inheritance and innovation. The main thing for us is we need to analyze our position and ask ourselves：what is the existing regional cultural heritage？ And after a hundred years，what legacy will we have？

How to create fertile soil for regional culture prosperity？ I think there are three important points. Firstly，it is necessary for people to regard it with awe，for administrator to establish the sense of regional culture protection and development. Secondly，we should attaches importance to developing folk culture association and cultural community. Thirdly，government encouragement and support is of importance to inspire creativity and energy of the guardian and creator of regional culture，which can embody man’s identification of value.
